The PNG Science and Technology Council Secretariat supported by National Fisheries Authority held its first ever PNG Women in science and Industry workshop at the National Research Institute.
The workshop was aimed at bringing together women in research, science and industry to discuss issues affecting them and to empower each other.

PNG needs a greater participation of women in the science industry.
Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Francis Maru, also pointed out during his opening speech that the contribution of women in the society is significant, and as PNG moves into the future equal participation is needed for the growth of our nation.
“Women have the ability to contribute in this field, they just need to be given a chance and recognised,” said Maru.
