The Papua New Guinea Fire Service (PNGFS) is preparing to equip all its fire stations throughout the country.
Chief Fire Officer Isaac Silas said the recent fires in Lae and Port Moresby have got the Fire Service on its toes to adequately be resourced for fire emergency calls.
Mr Sailas said discussions have been held with the Inter Government Relations Minister and, a recommendation will be put forward for consideration by the National Executive Council.
The Chief Fire Officer is adamant that the Fire Service needs to take a more proactive approach to manage fire outbreaks and save lives and property.
Mr Silas said the recent fires in Lae and Port Moresby was a wakeup call for the service.
He says a Risk Profile Assessment will be carried out in all cities and towns throughout the country before the Fire Service expands and establishes more stations.
Currently the Fire Service is present in 10 provinces throughout PNG with recruitment just beneath 400.
Mr Silas said, the Risk Profile will place the fire service in a better position in human resource, technical equipment and disaster preparedness.
Meanwhile Mr Silas is calling on all businesses and the general public to be fire cautious or make time to call the Fire Service Hotline.
