Final Basketball Squad Expected to be Named Soon

Following a successful 3-day training camp in port Moresby, a final squad of 10 men and women is expected to be named for the Pacific Basketball Championships in New Zealand in Novermber.

The Basketball Federation oPNG was privileged enough to have Joel Khalu from Mackay Basketball conduct a three day training camp alongside high performance trainer for the Gold Coast Sport Academy, Aaron Alsop.

 

35 men and 24 women from Lae, Chimbu, Mt Hagen, Madang and Port Moresby took part inthe 3-day camp, starting with a fitness testodrills and skills program and game structure.

 

The team willthen be trimmed to 20 men and women beforethe final training camp in Cairns, wherethe top 10 players will be selected to attendthe Pacific Basketball Championships in New Zealand in Novermber.

The Basketball Federation oPNG has been privileged enough to have Joel Khalu as part ofthe sport’s building block to 2015 and beyond.

 

Khalu will headthPNG Men’s basketball team tothe Pacific eventowhile veteran coach and mentor Veitu Diro will coachthe women’s team.

 

The 3-day training camp was made possible throughthe Government’s Go for Gold Program and major sponsors CPL.

 

The camp is a sign of greater things to come for the code of Basketball.
