By Shane Saroya – EMTV Sports, Port Moresby

The Kerepia Barracks at the Correctional Service Head Quarters at Bomana came alive during the long weekend as various sporting activities took place.

The program was intended to keep the youth away from harmful activities through sports.

The tournament continued on with the sporting events today, which brought out various youths from around the vicinity with games played including sevens touch and volleyball.

Torment Organiser, Chris Tape, said the tournament was initiated by youths in the barracks with the purpose to keep the youths out of drinking homebrew and violence, during and after the festive season.

There are eleven mix teams in the sevens touch competition without divisions.

The competition is in round eight of the season and will conclude round 10 and the finals after New Year.

Corporal David Kambe Jnr, also ran a soccer competition that coincided with the Kerepia Barracks Sports with the its intended purpose to get the young talents to take part and showcase their skills so they can be identified by National Sporting bodies and trained to become future star athletes.
