A Volunteer Director for the PNG Family Health Association in Bulolo believes rural and urban communities should work to balance population growth and existing resources.
Zanie Yosi, says more awareness needs to be carried out to educate the people on family planning methods that are available.
The PNG Family Health Association is one of the biggest NGOs in the country.
The organisation has two main branches in Morobe, one in Mutzing in the Markham District, and the other in Bulolo.
They disseminate information and educate communities and individuals on family planning methods related issues.
During the Bulolo Show over the weekend, the volunteers took the time to educate people on the importance of planning.
Zanie Yosi explains, people between the ages of 14 & 50 are encouraged to seek family planning services. Zani says family planning methods are not only for married couples. The benefits include the prevention of unwanted pregnancies and complications that lead to death and abortions.
With the high rate of teenage pregnancies, the Family Health Association is encouraging people to learn about the family planning methods.
The services that are available include pills, fertility awareness, condoms, Implants and IVD.
