FIFA Facilities Not Ready

By Dion Kombeng – EMTV Sports

Questions have been raised regarding Papua New Guinea’s ability to host the 2016 Under 20 FIFA Women’s World Cup next year.

In a recent trip to PNG in August, FIFA delegates visited Port Moresby, Kokopo, and Lae, where some of the teams will be hosted, and found that the required infrastructure in the country is not yet ready to host the event.

FIFA has now given PNG until October 15 to meet all the requirements, one being that the country must have 16 training sites. But with it being just days away from the deadline, the prospect of PNG hosting the Under 20 FIFA Women’s World Cup now look to be very slim.

Over the weekend, a meeting was held between various stakeholders, along with CEO of the PNG Sports Foundation, Peter Tsiamalili.

Tsiamalili has requested that the governing body extend the deadline to November, to allow for the venues and facilities in the country to fully meet the requirements.
