Eviction to Leave Four Families Homeless

by Merilyn Diau-Katam – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Tenants of the National Housing Corporation duplexes in Boroko, Angau Drive, have received a copy of an eviction notice advising them to leave their houses due to other development plans.

This has raised several questions on the basis of the eviction.

The tenants question why they had not been served the original copy and why the Managing Director of the National Housing Corporation did not sign it.

A total of four families are currently residing at the property.

Sarto Inaido, who is one of the tenants, said “Our concern is that there was no consultation. The National Housing Corporation never came up to us in advance to tell us what their plans and intentions are about this place. One day they show up to the property and give us a fourteen day notice to vacate this area.”

EMTV News brought the matter to the Managing Director of the National Housing Corporation, who clarified that although he did not sign the eviction notice it is, however, official.
