Enga Floods almost catastrophic

A number of bridges linking communities tothe Provincial headquarters of Wabag have been destroyed by raging river from weeks of continuous rain.

Some permanent bailey bridges linking districts have been washed away cutting off economic and everyday living activities.

Enga Provincial disaster authorities headed by administrator, Dr Samson Amean have conducted an Ariel inspection and report thatthe situation onthe ground is almost catastrophic.

Ground assessments have begun, thoughthe extent of damage and cost will not be known for some time.  It is expected to run into millions of kina.

There have not been immediate reports of injury and deaths at this point.

Hunger may bethe next direct result of destruction to food gardens bythe floods.

Meantime, Parts of Madang have also been in-undated with flood waters from continuous rains.

The National Disaster Centre in Port Moresby has released half a million kina to help victims.

Acting Director Martin Mose handedthe money to Usino Bandi MP, Anthon Yagama to help his people with relief and ther requirements.
