Past and present students of Marianville Secondary School have ended four days of celebrations for the school’s Golden Jubilee, this afternoon.
Founding principal, Sister Elaine Cochrane, and current principal, Sister Angela Taylor, unveiled a plaque to commemorate Marianville’s 50th Anniversary.
Today’s celebrations began with a joint service. It was attended by over 500 former students and teachers, some of whom were camping at Marianville, since Friday.
The joint service was celebrated by the Catholic Head of Papua New Guinea, Archbishop John Ribat.
It commemorates two events; 50 years of education for young girls in PNG at Marianville and the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ.
Because Marianville is run by Catholic nuns, religious principals and the art of singing is compulsory for all students.
The liturgy was organised by former students who participated in different parts of the mass.
Most of the songs they sang were either composed by them or taught to them by former teachers.
The unveiling of plaque and the commissioning of a 15 seater school bus symbolises Marianville’s Golden Jubilee.
The unveiling officially concludes the 50th anniversary celebrations for the school and also marks the start of a new chapter for the girls’ school.
