EMTV Elected to ABU Administration Council-Strengthens potential as APEC 2018 Host Broadcaster Partner

EMTV has been elected to the prestigious position of Member of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Administration Council.

The announcement was made at the conclusion of the recent Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union’s 53rd General Assembly, held in Bali, Indonesia, and hosted by ABU member, Radio Republik Indonesia.

Media Niugini Limited and EMTV CEO, Bhanu Sud, says “EMTV is delighted to be elected on the Administrative Council of Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) and looks forward to working closely with the rest of the ABU Council; the ABU’s leadership team, and the entire international membership, to address the critical issues facing the Public Broadcasting industry and our viewers.
“EMTV is proud to be the first broadcaster in the Pacific to be elected onto the Administration Council.”

This access provides EMTV a valuable position to build credibility, and promote the image of Papua New Guinea media, and strengthening the role of public broadcasters in the Pacific.

“I am excited about what the next chapter holds for EMTV, as we continue to work towards delivering compelling and contextual local and international content to our viewers across the country.

“This elected position is significant as it represents EMTV’s recognition as a Broadcasting Leader in the Pacific, and now internationally.

“In our new global role, I am excited to support the ongoing Digital Broadcasting revolution in PNG to boost the Government’s Digital TV Transition Program and its vision of Public Broadcasting access for all,” Said Mr Sud.

Free-to-Air Public Broadcasting has had a transformational impact on individuals, businesses, industries and communities, contributing significantly to local economies and improving the lives of billions around the world.

For EMTV, becoming a practicing ABU Administration Council member, officially commencing in January 2017, comes at a perfect time when growth and new opportunities are being delivered in Papua New Guinea.

Come 2018, Papua New Guinea will be host to APEC 2018, and EMTV will be committed to embracing this unique opportunity, with it’s strengthened abilities, to provide reliable support as a leading Papua New Guinean free-to-air broadcaster to this international event.

At the recent Pacific Media Partnership Summit 2016, hosted by EMTV, ABU Secretary General Dr Javad Mottaghi, expressed the ability of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union and its international members to be a potential Host Broadcaster to APEC 2018.

It is especially a symbol of success, for a leading Papua New Guinean public free-to-air broadcaster, to be among a league of national free-to-air, provincial, and subscription broadcasters in the Asia-Pacific region, and around the world.

The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union collectively considers and recognizes that Broadcasters have a responsibility to provide audiences of the Asia-Pacific with knowledge and information to improve people’s lives. At the recent ABU 53rd General Assembly, EMTV, along with other powerful members in the ABU, adopted the GA 2016: Bali Declaration.

The declaration appeals to ABU members to devote substantial and increased radio and television broadcast airtime in both peak and shoulder periods, and utilize new media to celebrate all forms of multi-culturalism and diversity.

The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Administration, alone, represents powerful broadcasters from countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, China, Singapore, India, Hong Kong,  Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, European Broadcasting Union, World Broadcasting Union, and Voice of America.
