Empowering Women Through Floriculture & Agriculture

A unique Floriculture & Agriculture show is buzzing with female empowerment energy in Popondetta this week.

 

The Nothern Province is generally popular for catering Kokoda trekkers; however, a female organization representing Oro Floriculture has settheir bars high with a four day show.

They believe in creating and empowering women for a sustainable living as well as boosting household income.

 

Women men, children and youths were brought togther in Popondetta this week, asthe Floriculture and Agriculture Show kicked off on a high energy and vibrant coloured start on Tuesday, inthe humble capital ofthe Nothern Province.

 

A first of its kind to be hosted inthe province,the show also sawthe first public appearance ofthe newly-elected Mayor for Popondetta, Norman Ivahupa.

 

Although it was a female-dominated occasion, he spread a message of encouragement for women empowerment to be supported by all men aroundthe country.

 

“We cannot just sit down and expectthe government provide for us, we have to do it ourselves and letthe government come in wherethey can,” says Norman Ivahupa.
 

The show brought positivity and support from lLeadersin all areas. District Administrator for Sohe, ZACHARIAS JAMOTA stood proud representing his Member of ParliamentoDelilah Gore, as he made an unexpected gesture of financial support tothe Oro WomenFloriculture & Agriculture Association in recognition oftheir efforts and goals for women intheir province.

 

Receivingthe cheque was President for the Oro floriculture association, Betty Bebonaba.

 

This vibrant show will continue to showcase flower power and female empowered agri-entrepeneurs tothe guests and residents of Popondetta town, tillthe end of this week.
