By Julie Badui Owa – EMTV News, Lae

More than 70 employees of Lae City Council Garbage and Sanitation Sector, have raised concerns on media today (May 31) about various issues affecting their work for almost 6 years. One of the concerns includes their safety gears, which the previous management denied them from.

The Lae City Council Health Division under the new Management met with the employees and made a commitment to purchase their full safety gears. These men are employees of the Lae City Council Garbage and Sanitation Section. The men came out today and raised their concerns about work issues that have affected them for the last 5 years.

Their job includes garbage collection and cleaning. They do this from 6am to 8pm. They said their safety was a priority ignored by the management.

The Lae City Council Health Division under the new management today made a commitment to purchase safety gear, which will possibly be given to them next week.

Tura Bunman, an employee of the Garbage and Sanitation sector who has been working there for almost 7 years, said he has no savings though deductions were made from his pay.

The Lae City Council Supervisor for Garbage and Sanitation, Paul Keksan told EMTV News this morning that these issues were there for years. With the new management, they now have the confidence to raise these issues of concern.
