Elementary Education: Technical Capacity Development Needed

Teacherssaythe Education Department needs to develop its technical capacity to provide resource materials for elementary education aroundthe country on time.

A Teachersn-service in Port Moresby has been told this is lacking.

A Principle Curriculum Development Officer said efficiency in producing resource materials is key to better learning.

Phillipa Darius,the Principle Curriculum Development Officer atthe Education Department, says that for yearsthey have struggled to put togther resource materials on time. ther divisions also sharethe same problem.

Chairman Gabriel Tai said TSL acknowledged its 38, 000 plus membership of which 80 per cent were teachers and education department staff.

Also present was Acting Deputy Secretary Teaching & Education Standards Godfrey Yerua. He saidthe public-private partnership was important to deliver on government directives.

Though it may not fully meetthe needs ofthe division, it will help improverthe division’s efficiency.
