Electoral Roll and Voting Issues Still Not Addressed By Authorities

By Fidelis Sukina = EMTV News, Port Moresby

Recommendations to improve the electoral roll and voting are still not being considered, and are once again being presented in a seminar.

The National Executive Council has given 18 months to the Constitutional Law and Reform Commission to report on the views of the public on that particular matter, for the review of the Organic Law on National and Local Level Government Elections.

Research fellow and former-Director of the National Research Institute, Dr. Thomas Webster, has been conducting research, observing the election process and presented his and other observers findings.

The issues have been occurring in elections since the NRI started observing the National Elections in 2002 to 2017.

He says every election year the situation gets worse, but the authorities are still not considering the facts and recommendations. The highlighted issues were serious and need Government attention, some were hilarious and hard to consider true

He added that the issues addressed by researchers and observers, needed to be addressed before the next elections are to be conducted.
