The Electoral Commissioner, Patilias Gamato, announced today that the National and Local Level Government Elections will be conducted separately next year.
This is the result of a recent NEC decision.
This now demands that legislative changes be made to the organic law to accommodate this decision.
Up until last week, the Electoral Commissioner was confident that the elections would follow the organic law, which dictates that both elections are conducted concurrently.
The electoral commissioner was not able to confirm the reason behind this decision to run the elections separately.
The expected change in the election dates is expected to be on the return of writs, which was previously set on the Monday 07th August 2017. The change in dates will be announced in due course.
