Eda Ranu Responds to Team Fiji’s Contamination Fears

by Allanah Leahy – EM TV Online

Complaints of below-standard drinking water in PNG’s public water system prompted Eda Ranu CEO Henry Mokono, to reassure all Port Moresby residents, and all Pacific Games visitors, athletes and contingents, that Eda Ranu’s public water system has remained undisputed for 19 years.

Eda Ranu CEO Henry Mokono, gave a briefing of the company’s diligent efforts to deliver safe, quality water to residents every day, adding that unbiased reporting requires views from all parties involved in verifying facts and claims.

“My team were never consulted before the report went out. I am seriously concerned that such visitors coming into this country would judge Papua New Guinea by its cover and not look deeper to see what’s happening,” he said.

Noting Eda Ranu’s team of technicians and micro biologists, as well as appliance of international standards, Mokono said tap water is safe for consumption, with the quality compared with water in major Australian cities.

Eda Ranu’s use of international-standard equipment and infrastructure, including trained personnel under the Sydney Water Corporation, 60 testing points and daily testing of drinking water, highly compromise claims by Team Fiji, who are currently boiling water before drinking, from fear of contamination.

“We have Fijians, Samoans and Cook Islanders [to name a few] who live and work in Port Moresby. We’ve got Australians, New Zealanders, Americans, Filipinos that live and work in Port Moresby that have never complained of water contamination.

For someone to be here on PNG soil for just two days, saying that Eda Ranu water is contaminated, is a joke,” said Eda Ranu CEO Henry Mokono this morning.

Mokono further insisted that tapped water is, in fact, healthier than bottled water, echoing many other studies that show the environmental damage and health risks bottled water has caused.
