Eastern Highland’s Awute Coffee Expands into Manufacturing

By Bethanie Harriman – EM TV, Goroka

One of Papua New Guinea’s upcoming coffee brand names, Awute, is looking to expand further into manufacturing.

An exporter of Papua New Guinean coffee, Awute has now succeeded in creating its Nokondi blend that has entered the local market.

The Awute family aims to produce a unique brand of coffee in Papua New Guinea and uses simple processes to produce a coffee product that is rich in taste.

Awute is also one of Papua New Guinea’s exports of coffee to Germany.

Ishmael Awute is the brother in charge of the operations of Awute coffee; he explains that the manufacture of more Awute coffee products is in the pipeline.

“We want to create two more brand for Awute Coffee,” says Ishmael.

Awute’s success in creating a unique taste, that sets aside its two varieties of its Nokondi blend, is backed by stringent quality control measures that the dark and medium roast coffee go through.

James Awute sees quality control as something greater than the coffee itself, saying it’s about giving the best to customers.

Awute is being supported by the Coffee Industry Cooperation based here in Goroka. The company has an export and manufacturing licence.
