East New Britain Rugby Football Union Grand Final Preview

by Lorraine Genia – EM TV Sport, Port Moresby

The East New Britain Rugby Football Union (ENBRFU) will hold its rugby sevens grand final this weekend at the Maltech Oval in Rabaul.

For the first time, ENBRFU will see finals played across four divisions.

In the women’s division, Spartans, who booked the first grand final spot, will take on a much-improved Redskins outfit. While in the premier grade, a game that has been labelled as the clash of the titans will see a classy and experienced Rabaul Cardinals outfit ready to take on the clinical Vikings in a much hyped rematch of their semi-final encounter.

After disposing of the Rabaul Redskins last weekend, Vikings seemed to have found their match winning combinations in their fast outside backs of Steven Wumi Jnr, Ivan Philip and Neville Bongoi. This of course complimented by the experienced Eugene Tokava in the forwards, along with Steven Bart and William Tirang.

However, Cardinals have a host of finals campaigners in Jason Billy, John Rakan and Chris Bryan whilst in the backline Andrew Jolam, Freddie Allan, Ben Kilala and powerhouse ball runner Lesley Joe will pounce on any chance they get to score.

The inclusion of ball player and PNG touch rep Ronald Bibiken is also a huge bonus for them.

In the other matches, Rabaul Cardinals will lock horns against the Rabaul Redskins in the U15s division, while in the U19s match Maltech Rookies front up against Matupit Diggers.
