East Cape Road Rehabilitation Contract Signed

A contract was signed today for major road rehabilitation in East Cape, Milne Bay province.

China Overseas Engineering Group Co. (COVEC) was awarded the contract ahead of three other bidders.

The contract is valued at over K89 million and will be jointly funded by the World Bank and the national government.

The signing of the contract for the East Cape Road Rehabilitation took place at the Government House in Port Moresby this morning.

Governor General, Grand Chief Sir Michael Ogio, executed the contract on behalf of the state.

COVEC was awarded the contract ahead of Dekenai Constructions Ltd.

Company representatives Ding Shi and Hu Gang were on hand and signed on behalf of the company, witnessed by Secretary for the Department of Works, David Wereh.

The over contract is for the road upgrade and sealing from Yalua to Kehelala covering approximately 51km.

The World Bank and the national government will jointly fund the contract; with World Bank putting in 78 per cent of the cost, while the government will chip in 22 per cent.
