DWU Bougainville’students: Funds For Youth Awareness

The Bougainville Crisis of the late 80's and early 90's affected many youths who missed out on formal education.

The Bougainville Youth Foundation has realized this and one of its objectives is to empower youths with lifelong learning skills.

Divine Word University Madang Chapter representative, Nigel Uaiz says more youth empowerment programs are vital in this peace building process.

Divine Word University Bougainville’students Association host the Annual Bougainville Night, raising funds to assist the students to conduct awareness under the banner of the Bougainville Youth Foundation.

Students visit communities in the Autonomous Region, and talk about pressing issues that affect the society today.

Awareness is focused on youth empowerment, encouraging youths to be proactive and influence the decision making processes and make a change in the communities.

The DWU Bougainville Youth Foundation have been self-sustained by students, says Uiaz,  despite receiving no support from the government, and appeal to other chapters to wake up from their sleep and create strategies that would look at today’s needs.

Political leaders in both the national and the Autonomous Bougainville Governments were asked to support the Youth Foundation.
