DWU Academics Complete Online Teaching and Learning Pedagogy Training

by Marie Kauna – EMTV Online, Port Moresby

Divine Word University located in Madang province has gained recognition across the country over the years due to its progress in the educational services it has been providing and continues to provide.

To provide better and faster access to the schools programs, the university has launched its website as a marketing strategy to promote and provide information to the outer world.

Through its website, the institution has thus far enrolled two foreign students to be part of the university’s Master’s program; one a female from Nigeria, and the other a male from Solomon Islands.

As part of its preparation in changing the traditional classroom teaching and learning to e-learning and teaching, the university ran a three week training program on online pedagogy in e-teaching and e-learning.

The training was facilitated by academics from Canada, and was provided by Associate Professor Dr. Susan Crichton, Director of the Faculty of Education, University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada.

A total of 51 academics from the Madang and Port Moresby campuses attended and completed the three weeks training.

Participants were awarded a certificate badge for Moodle (a learning management system) specification and online learning and teaching.

DWU President, Fr. Czuba, congratulated the 51 academic staff members for their dedication and time in attending the upskill training and urged them to make use of the knowledge they gained from the training.

The training will help the academics in their professional careers as many are now adapting to using e-learning and e-teaching.
