Re-elected Madang Open Member, Nixon Duban, was sworn in at Government House in Port Moresby yesterday.
The ceremony was witnessed by People’s National Congress (PNC) leader and Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, senior Government Ministers, members of the Royal PNG Constabulary, and supporters of Mr. Duban.
Mr. Duban’s reinstatement comes after winning back his seat in a recent by-election in Madang.
Duban was challenged in court by runner-up and businessman Bryan Kramer, after election results in 2012.
Yesterday’s ceremony was to officially reinstate Mr. Duban as Police Minister.
Governor General, Sir Michael Ogio, concluded the formalities.
During a news conference after the swearing in, the Prime Minister said, the police portfolio was withheld while waiting for Mr. Duban’s by-election process.
Mr. O’Neill said, Mr. Duban will continue where he left off, with vital policies like the police modernization program, and maintaining stability in the government.
