Drink Driving: Taxi Overturned, Two Escape Dealth

A taxi driver and female passenger cheated death whenthe vehiclethey were travelling in overturned atthe Idubada Point in Port Moresby yesterday.


As onlookers rushed tothe vehicle,they quickly realisedthere was a woman lying unconscious inside.

The driver ofthe Taxi desertedthe scene and escaped intothe nearby mountains.


They attempted to remover her; however, she refused, fearing she would be attacked.

Eventually she was removerd, but turned violent and began abusing her helpers.


The woman was heavily intoxicated and was confused. It took a few minutes for her to regain her senses, before she broke down in tears. She confirmed thatthe driver was also heavily intoxicated.


The vehicle is currently being withheld bythe public where it will await its owner.


Police were atthe scene to prevent any futher destruction tothe vehicle. The incident has been referred tothe NCD traffic police.


The accident could have been fatal for boththe driver andthe young woman. This turn off as beenthe scene of numerous car accidents inthe past despite campaigns bythe road safety council against drink-driving.
