Double Murder in Port Moresby Shocks NCD Residents

A double murder that occurred in Port Moresby, on Tuesday night has left citizens in the National Capital District shocked.

NCD and Central Divisional Commander, Assistant Commissioner for Police, Sylvester Kalaut said an unmarked police vehicle which was stolen last weekend, was used in the killings.

The incident occurred at the Ela Beach area in the Moresby South Electorate.

Information on the double murder is still sketchy at the moment. But according to police reports, the first deceased was traveling home when he was shot with a factory-made firearm at point blank.

“The deceased was in his vehicle when he was shot, we believe the criminals followed him from wherever he was to his house and shot him with a factory-made pistol at point blank,” Kalaut said.

NCD and Central Divisional Commander, ACP Sylvester Kalaut, told the media that the second deceased was, a 23-year-old man, who was also shot with a gun, moments after the first murder .

The two vehicles that were involved in these killings were retrieved by police.

Police are treating this matter as wilful murder, and Commander Kalaut has commended his men for the recovering of the two vehicles.

Police believe five men are involved in this murder. One suspect is now in police custody in relation to this case.

Meanwhile ACP Kalaut is appealing to NCD residents to be cautious when driving around the city.

“NCD residents, if you see a suspicious vehicle following you, do not drive to your house, drive to a nearby police station so it disturbs the motive of the people in the vehicle who are following you,” Kalaut said.
