Nearly 100 women in the Dogura Zone of Alotau District are in Damaadona village for a six day skills training workshop.
For the past five days, women took part in skills training like sewing, floriculture courses, tourism and house keeping.
Yesterday, local MP Charles Abel visited the workshop training.
Upon visiting the women, Abel said women are the sustainers of every household.
Speaking on a national level, Abel said more work needs to be done for women to be respected at the level of leadership.
He added that women need more support in areas of gender equality, education and the fight against violence.
Local women say the training helped alot in developing skills at the village level.
The six day training was facilitated by women from the Alotau Urban Women’s Association.
The skills training workshop will end today.
Also in the same program, Abel presented K10,000 to the local elementary school.
The funding is earmarked to support the operation of the school.
