Disability Advocate Calls For Pension For PLWD

By Jack Lapauve Jr, EMTV – Port Moresby

Disability Advocate, Brown Kapi, wants the government to introduce a pension for People Living With Disability (PLWD) in the country.

Kapi said the government has made mention of this over the years, but nothing has been done.

He said the pension scheme can be inclusive with the Disability Policy.

While praising the O’Neill-Dion government for endorsing the Disability Policy and Sign language in the country, Mr Kapi said ‘Pension’ is the next best thing for People Living With Disability.

Kapi said if the government is serious, they will push this through the corridors of parliament. He said it’s good the government is now realising the rights for people with disability.

Kapi said if policies are endorsed and made official, it’s working mechanism must be achieved in a given period of time.

The disability advocate expressed this after the government announced NEC’s decision for the National Policy on Disability 2015 to 2025 recently by Community Development Minister, Delilah Gore.
