Development Plan for Nipa-Kutubu Launched

By Stanley Ove Jr – EM TV, Port Moresby

It was a day of celebration for the people of Nipa-Kutubu in the Southern Highlands province.

Hundreds gathered to witness the launch of their five-year development plan.

The five-year development plan will serve over 90,000 people from Nipa Basin, Poroma, Nembi and Pimanga to the foothills of Mt Bosavi. The plan will cover major development projects in the district.

The main project includes the rural electrification project from Mendi to Nipa, the building of the Nipa district hospital and major road developments.

Other key project areas include education, transport and law and order, which will have a total working budget of K3.8 million. Present to receive the plan was Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, who said the District Services Improvement Program (DSIP) is working for all districts in the country.

The Prime Minister said the national government will continue to support small districts like Nipa-Kutubu.

Meanwhile, local MP Jeffery Komal said the five-year development plan will bring change to the district that has seen little development for the last 22 years.
