The Kessi Community near Taurama Valley is in shock after a local resident discovered the body of a newborn.
It is believed the baby was dumped by its mother immediately after he was born. The suspect is on the run, and police are investigating.
When EMTV arrived at the scene, forensics were investigating. Senior Constable Ivia Kairi said police were alerted by a telephone call from a local resident.
Oxi Ikupu and his daughter Andrea were on their way to the shops just after lunch time when they noticed a dog chewing on something.
It is believed the baby boy was dumped in a shallow pit toilet by its mother after he was born.
The body was then dragged out by dogs and parts of its body chewed off.
The mother is on the run and her identity is not known at this stage. Police have appealed to the public with any information to come forward.
