ThPNG Customs officers discovered that smuggling of firearms and drugs are being organized underthe cover ofthe betel nut trade, betweenthe Sepik provinces, Madang andthe Highlands region.
Recently, four high powered firearms and a bag of marijuana were picked up in Begia during a raid alongthe district’s coastline.
Customs and Police suspectthe guns have been smuggled from acrosstheIndonesian border intPNG.
The Customs Commissioner Ray Paul said Customs and partner agencies are aware of many ofthese illegal activities, wherethey start and wherethey finish.
