Rugby Union fever has returned to the Nation’s Capital, with the biggest rugby competition in the country, the Capital Rugby Union, kicking off the pre-season competition, at the Bava Rugby Park.
This weekend welcomed round 2 of the CRU 7s pre-season competition, while the 15s rugby pre-season is set to commence in the next two weeks.
With 12 teams registered, among the popular University Piggies, Harlequins, and Brothers, Valley Hunters are expected to make their debut into the senior division.
“This is the second week of the pre-season club 7’s, we had 12 clubs in the men’s division register, and 4 women’s teams this week,” said Tournament Director, Paul Joseph.
With a few changes expected for season 2016, particularly with the format of the draws to cater for the upgrading of facilities for the 2016 FIFA U20 women’s world cup, CRU will only have one field roll out the tournament.
“We have a modified competition this year, as teams will play fortnightly in two pools.”
Regardless of the long recess in 2015 due to the Pacific Games, Paul Joseph say’s the level of rugby in the Nation’s Capital has not been affected, but rather grown in the past few months.
