Matava Retains Position thanks to Court Order

By Edwin Fidelis – EM TV, Kokopo

The National Court in Kokopo made a ruling yesterday afternoon in favour of Wilson Matava to retain his position as East New Britain’s Acting Provincial Administrator.

Matava was challenged by his predecessor, Akuila Tubal, with the court ruling that Matava will remain as acting provincial administrator until 14 August. This ruling is in accordance with the national gazette authorised by PNG’s Governor General.

Tubal earlier suspended Matava from the position, in turn breaching the Governor General’s orders earlier this month.

Matava obtained a court order from the National Court, restraining Tubal and his party from probing his appointment.

Court was adjourned until 31 July, for submission of more evidence by the two lawyers for representing MataVa’and Tubal.

The tussle has drawn the attention of East New Britain people who have condemned the action taken by the two members of the highest decision-making body of the province.
