Husband and Wife Contest in the ABG Elections

A husband and wife from the Autonomous Region of Bougainville have created history, contesting for their respective constituency seats in the third Autonomous Bougainville Government General Election.

Businessman, Martin Miriori, the elder brother of the first Autonomous Bougainville Government President, the late Joseph Kabui, is contesting the Ioro Constituency seat in the Panguna district of Central Bougainville.

His wife, Scholastica running for the Tsitalato constituency seat in Buka, North Bougainville.

Mr Miriori, in the last two elections contested the ABG presidential seat but was unsuccessful. In this third general election, he has raised his hands to this time contest in his own constituency, Iora of Panguna.

Their nominations in this year’s general election is historical; being the first couple to run for their respective constituencies in the ABG.
