Councilor on 2017 Budget

A Councilor from Lae Urban Local Level Government says authorities need to be honest and transparent with the distribution of the 2017 National Budget.

Carol Yawing, Councilor for Ward 2 said whether the money will reach them in time is a big question.

The government had allocated a total of more than 3.6 billion kina for the provinces it includes 100 thousand kina for each Local Level Government, and 10 thousand kina for each ward.

Most Projects from local level governments in Morobe province are yet to be implemented due to the delay in funding.

Under the Local Level Government Service Improvement Program, or LLGSIP, the Government has allocated K100 thousand for each LLG and K10 thousand for each ward.

Carol Yawing, the councillor for Lae Urban LLG Ward 2 area called on authorities to be honest and transparent when distributing what’s allocated for LLGs.

The National Government has allocated K3, 6 billion for the provinces. Ten million kina each has been allocated for Provincial and District Services Improvement Programs.

Each Local Level Government was given K100 thousand and K10 thousand was allocated to each LLG wards.

Yawing says they are yet to implement many of their projects approved in 2013.

Yawing says the investors and taxpayers residing at ward 2 area needs to benefit from proper government services.
