Cook Islands and Kiribati Ready for Commonwealth Youth Games

With less than 23 days to go before the 5th Commonwealth Youth Games gets underway, Cook Islands has confirmed a team of 16 athletes and five officials.

Kiribati will be represented by five young athletes under 18 years of age.

Cook Islands will be taking part in aquatics (Swimming), Athletics, Lawn Bowls and Rugby 7s.

Cook Islands have yet to win medals at the Commonwealth Youth Games level.

In statement made to the local daily, Cook Islands Sports and National Olympic Committee Manager, Siniva Marsters, said, their aim is to at least win a medal and the athletes will be targeting their personal best in the games.

Kiribati will only be competing in three sports – Tennis, Weightlifting and Boxing.

The team is expected to depart for the Games on the 3rd of September and to return on 17 September.

Apart from Cook Islands and Kiribati, PNG along with other Pacific nations are expected to announce their final team selections before the end of this month.
