Contractors Shut Fincorp House Gate in Protest

by Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV, Port Moresby

NCD contractors camped in front of the Fincorp House in Port Moresby have shut the main gate, stopping officers to enter.

They say the Education Department has, for far too long, denied and delayed their outstanding payments for their work in schools around NCD.

This also includes contractors working at the National Archives and national library.

The NCD contractors say that Education Secretary, Dr Michael Tapo and Education Minister, Nick Kuman have not come down to address the issue, leaving it neglected.

However, in an off camera interview with Education Minister Nick Kuman today, Mr Kuman says their petition regarding their payments are now before the National Executive Council for deliberation.

Minister Kuman says that after cabinet’s decision, a ministerial statement will be released.

The frustrated contractors have been camping for almost a month now in front of the Fincorp House. They say if nothing is done, they will shut few schools in NCD that are under maintenance.
