Construction on the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium, in Port Moresby, will continue over the next few months.
Constructions came to a halt after Curtain brothers owner, Late Sir Michael Curtain, fell ill, which led to his recent passing.
Since his passing, the government has spoken to the Curtain family, and will be moving on with the project.
The construction of the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium was a Private Public Partnership project, and Sir Curtain’s company was in charge.
With the project to continue, the government is seeking sponsorship and funding from BSP to finish off the main grandstand. New trustees for the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium will be appointed to take care of the facilities.
The Hubert Murray Stadium will be a commercial entity where they will have to make money to look after the facilities.
It will be the biggest stadium in PNG, with a seating capacity of 20,000 people.
Minister for Sports and National Events, Justin Tkatchenko, reaffirmed that the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium will be ready for use before the Rugby League World Cup 2017.
