Conservation and Environment Protection Authority Prepares for World Environment Day

Preparations are underway for World Environment Day celebrations to be held at the Adventure Park outside Port Moresby.

The Conservation and Environment Protection Authority received funding in kind from corporate sponsors to host the event.

World Environment Day is held on June 5 annually, however CEPA will celebrate this year’s event on Friday the 3rd of June.

The Conservation and Environment Protection Authority, received sponsorship in kind from corporate sponsors, Coca Cola Amatil and Puma Energy.

Coca Cola has sponsored in kind, with water and can drinks, while Puma Energy have sponsored in printed shirts that will be distributed on June 3rd.

Other corporate sponsors include, Oil Search, Total, Rapsol, UNDP and long-time sponsor, Steamships.

CEPA has conducted awareness through organised competition programs for schools in NCD.

The winners of the drawing competition and essay writing competition will be announced on June 3, at the celebrations of World Environment Day.

Meanwhile, environmental activist, Latin N’drihin, known for his extreme acts to raise awareness of environmental issues, spoke to EMTV News about protection of wildlife preservation.

“This World Environment Day is a wakeup call that we need to look after the environment and stop the illegal trade of wildlife animals. CEPA and the government authorities need to tighten up the policies and legislations and start enforcing” said, N’Drihin.

He added, it’s by time we enforce the laws on environment and the environment habitat will be safe.
