Condom-Eating Saga Case Adjourned

by Theckla Gunga – EM TV News, Port Moresby

The Waigani Committal Court has adjourned the case involving two police officers accused of forcing a woman to swallow condoms, last December to March 16.

This case was brought to light when the incident was filmed and uploaded on social media.

Senior Magistrate, Cosmos Bidar, made the adjournment on the grounds that police investigations were still continuing.

Officers Jacklyn Tanda and Joshua Yawijah appeared before magistrate Bidar on four counts of Deprivation of Personal Liberty, doing an Indecent Act to another person and Abuse of Office.

The court heard this morning that there were no instructions from the police officers heading the investigations but it is understood police have commenced investigations.

Tanda and Yawijah are both probationary constables attached to the Gordons and Boroko Police stations respectively.

On January 13, this year, the committal court heard that Tanda filmed a young woman who was forced to swallow two male condoms by Yawijah and another male officer, inside an interview room at the Boroko Station.

Magistrate Bidar extended their bail and the matter returns to court on March 16.

Meanwhile the third officer suspect is still on the run.
