Commonwealth Games: PNG in 12 sporting codes

PNG will participate in 12 sporting codes asthe one year countdown tothe 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games begins.

Up to 17sporting codes will be contested at next year’s Commonwealth games, 12 of whicPNG will be participating.

 

The sports are Athletics, Boxing, hockey, judo, lawn bowls, netball, rugby 7’s, shooting, and squash, Table Tennis, Triathlon, Weightlifting and Swimming.

 

Netball has earned its spot after finishing second to Fiji atthe Pacific Netball Series in Samoa this year.

 

Rugby Sevens onthe ther hand will be usingthe Wallis and Futuna Mini Pacific Games to qualify for the Wellington 7s.

 

Weightlifting has had a number of impressive recruits and will be looking to send one ofthe largest groups tothe Commonwealth games including Steven Kari and Dika Toua who are currently in training atthe Oceania Weightlifting Federation in New Caledonia.

 

Atthe heart ofthe day’s action in commemorating 100 days and counting down wasthe unveiling ofthe Glasgow 2014 Official Ticketing Guide –the route to up to one million seats atthe heart ofthe Games live action, across 17sports includingthe official games village.
