Comanche Wins Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race

by Dion Kombeng – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

Comanche crossed the line in Hobart late last night, to take line honours in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.

Clocking an unofficial time of two days, eight hours, 58 minutes, American skipper Ken Read said the Yacht was nothing shy of spectacular.

Instead of withdrawing like rival and pre-race favourites Wild Oats XI, Skipper Ken Read’s decision to making running repairs in winds of up to 40 knots paid off.

Comanche crossed the line 50 nautical miles ahead of compatriot Rambler 88.

The Yacht make an unbelievable comeback after a setback, when its rudder was damaged in rough seas and briefly retired.

Comanche made a 13 hour chase to catch up with Rambler 88, before overtaking after Rambler 88 also sustained damage.

The victory was also a sweet moment for the owners, the husband-and-wife team of Jim and Kristy Hinze-Clark. Kristy, who is also one of Australia’s top super-models, has become the first woman owner of a line-honours winning yacht.
