Chinese Shop in Badili Burnt Down

Fire engulfed one ofthe buildings located withinthe Badili wholesale centre yesterday, forcing all ther nearby shops to close.

 

The shop, owned by a Chinese National, was already in flames when fire crews arrived. Low water pressure fromthe fire truck made matters worse, as flames raged throughthe building.

Workers and shop owners were seen frantically removing items fromthe building, while firefighters trlied to controlthe flames.

 

Opportunists linedthe streetowhile those insidethe premises struggled to get intothe shop. Bet security personnel’s and police ensured order.

 

According to an employee, Stella Kenny,the fire started fromthe kitchen, when her boss forgot to turn offthe gas.

 

The blaze was reduced to smoke withthe help of fire crews fromthe National Airport Corporation but only after it had taken much ofthe building.

 

The buildings are owned by Pacific Palms Properties and leased out to Chinese Nationals.

 

The total costs ofthe damages are yet to be confirmed.

 

Meanwhile,thPNG Fire Service says formal investigations will be carrlied out to establishthe cost ofthe fire.
