CEO’s Independence Message to Telikom Employees

Telikom PNG Interim Acting CEO Mr Xavier Victor delivered his inaugural independence message to Telikom staff at Telikom Rumana Building last Friday (15th September) in Port Moresby.

In his speech, Mr Victor acknowledged the presence of staff who have gathered outside the building to commemorate Papua New Guinea’s 42 years of independence.

“It has been a long while since I saw our national colours (Red, Black and Gold) so prominently in Telikom Rumana and am sure in other Telikom establishments through PNG. Perhaps this signifies a shift in attitude and recognition of the occasion’s significance to us.” Victor said.

As PNG celebrates its 42 years of political independence, the CEO stressed the importance of the Anniversary.

“For me, the 42nd Anniversary marking our political independence is an opportunity for celebrations, thanksgiving and to offer our deepest gratitude to our founding leaders for the freedom we enjoy today as one people, one country, one nation, Papua New Guinea.”

Victor challenged his colleagues to take a moment as they celebrate their country’s 42 years of Independence to reflect on their past actions and importantly to contemplate a new beginning to better serve the company, Telikom, the customers, the People and the country.

He said while we speak of service to the country, customer loyalty is not necessarily influenced by the same “service to the country” considerations or a company’s national ownership or majority PNG workforce in a company.  “These are no longer strong selling points to attract customers with different backgrounds.” Victor said.

The CEO emphasised that customers have choices and their decisions revolve around “perceived value” they see in a product or service Telikom offers. These, he said can be the difference between winning and losing customers in a competitive market.

“So what is our value proposition to win customers?”

  • “Empathy to customers (Listen and understand our customers’ issues and champion their cause until resolved)
  • Be responsive (be prompt to attend to service complaints and restoration, answer calls or return calls, keep customers informed about matters of importance to them)”

Victor urged the staff to continue to work together to make Telikom and PNG stronger and prosperous in their own little ways, individually and collectively as a team.

“Make no mistake, our success or demise is in our hands; you and me.” He reiterated wishing all his staff a happy and safe independence.
