Case Adjourned Due to Lawyer Being Absent

By Theckla Gunga – EM TV News, Port Moresby

The two probationary constables implicated in the condom eating saga of last December had their case adjourned to next week because their laywer was on duty travel.

Both defendants, Jacklyn Tanda and Joshua Yawinja, appeared in court today and confirmed their files were still with them.

Senior Magistrate, Cosmas Bidar, adjourned the matter to next week for their lawyer to make submissions.

Today’s hearing was the fourth time both defendants appeared in court.

It is alleged that on December 4, 2015, Tanda is accused to have filmed a young woman who was forced to chew and swallow at least three male condoms inside an interview room at the Boroko Police Station.

Both were arrested and charged for three counts of abuse of office, doing an indecent act to insult another person and deprivation of personal liberty.

Their case was first mentioned in January and will return to court next week.

Their bail has also been extended.
