Opera performances are not so common in PNG. However, a school in the nation’s capital decided to introduce the theatrics of opera to its students with a special Christmas concert.

The Caritas Technical Secondary School hosted the 5th Hamamas Krismas concert last night with performances by students, faculty members and visiting friends from South Korea.

The special performance of the night was by the professional Opera singers from South Korea. The professionals were in the school to promote awareness and appreciation of classical music.

Invited guests included, the Prime Minister’s wife, Lynda Babao-O’Neill and South Korean Ambassador, His Excellency Kim Seong Choon. Family and friends also attended in numbers.

The proud band coordinator, Buruka Tau, said students had only six weeks to rehearse.

The talented student band composed of instruments ranging from woodwinds to brass and they backed up the choir for an outstanding performance.

Sr. Florentine Cho, the school Directress, said the concert was a good opportunity to expose students to classical music and build their musical knowledge.
