Car Ploughs through Stations of the Cross Procession

By Serah Aupong – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Just after 8am this morning, a white Toyota Camry sedan ploughed through a procession of Catholic faithful who were walking the Stations of the Cross in Port Moresby.

The Stations of the Cross procession is held every year on Good Friday, and the nation’s capital sees an extra turnout of Catholic faithful every year.

This morning, the procession had just passed the Lahara service station, when the white Toyota Camry sedan following the procession refused to stop, and continued to drive through the crowd.

A number of people were injured and rushed to hospital after being hit by the vehicle.

The procession continued, toward its final destination of the Don Bosco Technological Institute.

Police providing escort and security to the procession pursued the vehicle, and it is not known if they apprehended the driver.

Police told EMTV that they have the registration number of the vehicle, and they will be following it up with the Motor Vehicle Insurance Limited, to track down the owner of the vehicle.
