A visiting team from Cairns last month, was made up of Dr Glen Deakin and Associate Professor Stephen Bird, who were in the country to familiarise themselves with the operations of PNG High Performance.
For them it’s about athlete’s education and the systematic approach to what works in the sports environment in PNG. They believe that a need for adjustments can be implemented in areas of monetary; fatigue and; recovery management. Though seen as just little things, the exercise will go a long way for the outcome in relation to athletes’ performances.
They said, while PNG has great facilities for training, they will devise training strategies in place for the athletes’ dieting; and strength and conditioning. Nutrition and building braun is important for heightened competitiveness.
The duo will return to the country in the next few months to carry on their duties with PNG High Performance in getting the PNG athletes ready for the 2018 Commonwealth Games as well as other international sporting tournaments.
