Businesses call for inquiry into Lands

The Port Moresby business community says issues withintheLands Department calls for a full inquiry.

Business community head, David Conn, says huge wrong doings by a public office overthe years has costthe business houses millions of kina just to sign off on land deals.

The astronomical price range for pieces of land put forward by landowners and so-called title holders havethe business community questioningthe legality ofthe whole process. Many ofthe questions are now planted ontheLands Department.

Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce andIndustry’s Chief Executive Officer, David Conn says a lot of transparency needs to come back intothe land process.

On top ofthe land issues arethe hefty real estate prices and commercial land leases. Conn says many ofthe land dealers are second or third parties and howthey happen to holdthe titles is quite overwhelming.

This is an area ripe for a full inquiry.
