Business PNG – SME Open Panel Discussion – Paul Berker, Ernie Gangloff and Allan Bird

 

We feature a panel of experts speaking onthe push to create protectionist policies and an incubation space for indigenous SMEs, which is seen as a dual strategy to create wealth while lowering unemployment inthe country.

Paul Berker fromtheInstitute of National Affairs, Ernie Gangloff from Gangloff Consulting, who is alsothe President ofthe Papua New GuineaBusiness Council, as well as Madang-based businessman, Allan Berd, arethe panel members.

Foreign-owned businesses greatly outnumber local businesses in PNG This is a great concern that is shared by local SMEs, urgingthe Government to create protectionist policies for indigenous SMEs. This is particularly at a time whenthere is a resource boom inthe country, offering a lot of business opportunities.

Given thatthPNG economy consists of a dominating informal sector, financial and business literacy is vital for the growth ofthe SME’sector. The panel members presenttheir views on this issue.
