On this episode of Business PNG we take a look at the East Sepik Province, where the Prime Minister, several ministers and heads of institutions arrived to launch the ‘Sepik Chicken Grain and Cocoa Innovation Project,’ championed by Minister for Trade Commerce & Industry, Richard Maru, in his respective district – Yangoru Saussia.
With a footprint of six thousand hectares – a joint venture between Kumul Consolidated Holdings and Innovative Agro Industry Ltd an affiliate of the Israel LR Group.
The Sepik Chicken Grain and Cocoa Innovation Project is a K100 million investment; majority owned by Kumul holdings, and to be managed by innovative agriculture holdings.
The project is intended to produce eggs and poultry for the local market and stock feed from local grown materials, and will include a 5,000 hectare cocoa plantation.
The project is located in the Urimo planes in the Yangoru Sassia district, the department of Trade Commerce & Industry has been investing significantly in the area to build infrastructure to enable large scale agricultural investments to be made in the area by investing in electricity, a water treatment plant and roads.
The Prime Minister was taken on a tour to inspect the latest developments in the district.
Business PNG also caught up with Ilan Weiss – Chairman and Director for Innovative Agro Industry Ltd, who spoke about the technicality and macroeconomics aspect of the project.

She speaks to Business PNG about the demand of funeral services in the country, how thousands of kina is spent on flying the deceased to Port Moresby and Lae for these services.
She shares her vision to expand the small shop to a fully-fledged funeral home that will cater to Madang, East and West Sepik (Sandaun).
