Bulolo Violence: One Hacked to Dealth & Two Speared

Early Saturday morning Watut men raided Bebu Settlers hacking a Bebu man to death and torching several properties including stores and houses. 


The riot began late Friday afternoon when a Watut man was slashed inthe head by a bush knife, and two thers speared after an argument with Bebu men over cigarettes atthe Belolo Market.

Watut lLeaderssaythe people are tired ofthe Bebu settlers who originally come from Goilala inthe Central Province.


The Watut blamethem for petty crimes such as Belum snatching including harassment atthe Belolo Market.


District Administrator Tae Gwembalik says police and government personnel were outnumbered.


Senior constable Paius Kulikul says more violence is expected as more Watut men mobilize to come into Belolo town.


“They (Watut men) have mobilised and are coming to Belolo town from all locations,” he said.

Mobile Squad 15 rushed into Belolo to containthe situation after a weeklong hunt for the Beack cat murder suspects.
